Software
Running an online business means that computers are involved somewhere along the line. Whether it’s your own PC, the servers on which your websites are hosted, or the PCs of visitors to your website.
The advantage of doing everything with computers is that they are extremely good at doing complex or repetitive tasks over and over again. They don’t get tired or bored as people do. And as long as they are programmed correctly, they don’t make mistakes, either.
Unless you’re running your online business from a public library, internet cafe or some other place where you have access to a PC, the chances are that you already own a computer.
So, having made that investment in a computer, why not make it work for a living? You don’t want to spend hours doing jobs manually that your computer can do for you.
Time is money
If I had to spend 2 hours every day doing menial tasks for my online business, that’s effectively costing me money. For example, if I earned only $10 per hour in my day job, two hours work per day is equivalent to $20 per day, $140 per week or $560 per month.
How much do you earn per hour? That’s the minimum amount your time is worth.
If I spent $50 on software that could do the job for me, wouldn’t that make a lot of sense? Even if it meant I could do the job in just one hour per day instead of two, it would still be a wise investment.
It would give me more time to put my efforts into making money, which would then pay back the investment in software.
So think about what software would be useful to your business. If there is some task that you find yourself doing over and over again, see if there is some software that will do it for you. The chances are that somebody else found themselves doing repetitive tasks and wrote (or commissioned somebody to write) some software to do them.
I’ll be recommending some good software packages on these pages.
